The Fil-Mission Auxiliary Association (FMAA)

The Fil-Mission Auxiliary Association (FMAA) is a nationwide, non-political, non-profit, Catholic lay association whose main aims are the propagation of missionary consciousness among the Filipino people and the sanctification of its members. It is a parish-based organization. It has various units in different parishes in the country where it is recognized, authorized and controlled by the parish which has jurisdiction over them.

The Vision

The FMAA envisions "A community of lay missionaries actively living and sharing the gift of faith in the light of the Gospel towards the growth of the Filipino Church." This primarily stems from the belief that by virtue of our baptism each one of us is a lay missionary and together we shall live and share the gift of faith. Further more, as propagators of vocations and missionary consciousness, every FMAA member shall be a model of Christian maturity.

The Objectives of the Association

1. Sanctification of Members

Every member has to achieve a high level of spiritual growth and development since the foremost obligation for the spread of the Gospel is to lead a profound Christian life. It is in this manner that we will reach the ultimate goal of being a Catholic Christian, and our aspiration to be in constant union with our Lord Jesus Christ through constant prayer. It is also through prayer that the organization can be of big help in the missionary activity of the Church.

2. Spiritual, Moral and Material Assistance to Missions

The FMAA is tasked to provide spiritual (by praying for the missions), moral (by keeping in touch with our Filipino missionaries) and material (by offering sacrifices and financial support on individual basis) assistance to the missionary apostolate of the Catholic Church.

3. Assistance in Mission Animation

The FMAA aims to vigorously assist in the propagation of missionary consciousness among the Filipino people by making them aware of their being missionary themselves by virtue of their baptism. The organization believes that lay participation or involvement will have a profound and effective impact in the missionary apostolate of the Catholic Church.

4. Awareness and Responsiveness to Social and Moral Issues.

The organization seeks to be fully aware of the social and moral issues that affect our faith and our country. Christ mandated us through the seven corporal works of mercy to extend our total and unselfish commitment to our brothers and sisters in need. The organization believes that "Faith without Action is a Dead Faith." (Jas 2:17) The seven corporal works of mercy are the following: feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, comfort the prisoners, visit the sick, and bury the dead. Spiritually speaking, the organization encourages each member to practice the seven spiritual works of mercy and these are the following: to teach the ignorant, to correct the sinners, to counsel those in doubt, to console the sorrowful, to bear wrongs patiently, to forgive wrongs willingly, and to pray for the living and the dead.

5. Establishment of Filipino Youth with a Mission (FYM)

The organization seeks to actively involve the youth in the missionary apostolate of the organization. We believe that the younger generation is the hope of the Church and the world (see paragraph # 58 Tertio Millenio Adveniente by Pope John Paul II).

The Mission

The actions of the association shall always be in support of the Catholic Church. As a lay missionary association our mission is to propagate missionary consciousness and develop missionary spirituality with the ultimate goal of building responsible missionary communities. We shall also promote religious and lay missionary vocations. As a parish-based association, it is our responsibility to provide and initiate mission programs for all the parishes.

The FMAA Spirituality

As a Catholic association actively involved in mission animation, that is, specifically the promotion of missionary consciousness among Filipinos, the FMAA has a lay spirituality characterized by a life, prayer and apostolate in imitation of Jesus Christ, the greatest missionary.

The FMAA supplements the missionary activity the Filipino missionaries especially the MSP priests in Asia and Oceania, and thus reflects God's profound love for man and the Church. Each member shows love and concern for all especially the least and poorest of his brothers through the practice of the corporal works of mercy. The FMAA missionary spirit is enhanced by an intense prayer life coupled with an ardent will for conversion. With humility and meekness, each member seeks the forgiveness of God and also possesses a forgiving heart. Being a witness to God's plan for the salvation of mankind, the FMAA member manifests the attitudes of a lay co-worker in mission together with the Filipino missionaries and most especially the principal agents thereof, not only with Jesus Christ but also the Holy Spirit.

In collaboration with the saving action of the Holy Spirit, the FMAA member radiates holiness and reflects this grace to others. The individual member believes that it would not be possible to bear witness to Christ without reflecting His image, which is made alive in each one by grace and the power of the Spirit (No.87, Redemptoris Missio). Accordingly, the FMAA member allows himself to be used by the Spirit in mysterious ways to share the gift of faith and proclaim the Truth. In spreading the Good News , the FMAA regards Mary, as the role model of support to Jesus, such that she is source of inspiration of every member. For the FMAA, Mary is also the model of faith, hope and love which provides inspiration to all who cooperate in the Church's apostolic mission for the rebirth of humanity. As a sign of love for Mary, with the fervent hope that through her intercession, each member will seek God's will and not his own.

Inspired by Mary, the FMAA with the grace of the Holy Spirit, aims to encourage cooperation in the work of evangelization in such manner that there is an active direct participation of lay people in the missionary apostolate of the church with the ultimate goal of becoming spiritually mature in Faith by being in union with Christ.

Vocation Character

The association is vocation group. As such, it shall provide its member and the parish opportunities to discover their true vocation. The FMAA shall organize vocation promotion activities such as exhibits, forums and vocation discernment seminars. It shall promote all missionary lay and religious congregation and most especially the Mission Society of the Philippines (MSP), it being the official missionary arm of the Philippine Catholic Church.
